This is a contribution post to the 24hours of innovation, a global event celebrating innovation. Although we are all dealing with a crisis, great things have been happing in our community we call earth. This posting is written to inspire the innovator in you and let you think about some great areas of innovation that you might not have recognized or simply overlooked. This is ‘My half time pep talk for 2009’ and I hope you enjoy it!
Let’s say you ask ten people the question ‘where do you see true innovation?’.
You will probably get ten different answers, right?
That’s because we all look at innovation differently. The beautiful thing about innovation is that it can be truly inspiring and accelerate change.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the areas of innovation you think about when answering the question…
Where do you see true innovation?
Star Trek has always been the most decent kid in the Sci-Fi class. You will never hear any inappropriate words and almost always get a happy ending.
The new Start Trek-movie called Star Trek XI had its world wide launch about a week ago. When looking at the trailer, you see young Kirk, Spock and some fantastic visual effects. So no surprises there (except for Zachary Quinto aka Sylar from Heroes playing young Mr. Spock). Any geek and ‘Trekkie’ (like me
) is probably going to checkout this movie soon.

According to consulting firm McKinsey you can by using small technology innovations. More innovations are becoming available each day and allow you to choose a more eco-friendly way of travel.

Last week, while watching the kids of good friends play with sidewalk chalk in our yard, I remembered something Pablo Piscasso once said:
Every child is an artist. Your challenge is to remain an artist after you grow up.
As you mature, your mind develops certain viewpoints. It becomes harder to open your mind to new ideas, let alone think out of the box. Keeping your mind in a playful state helps you to open up to creative thinking.
So how do you keep a playful frame of mind?
For you and me, having light available is probably just normal as the sun coming up every morning. If you want to read something at night, you turn on a light, right?
It might be hard to imagine but about 1,6 billion people on our planet do not have access to electricity. In Sub Saharan Africa only 9 % of the rural population has access to electricity. After sunset, people have to read with the flickering light of a candle or kerosene (paraffin) lamp . Nasty side effect of kerosene lamps is that they pose health and safety risks, they are relatively expensive and have a low light output…

In 1984, it was American science fiction writer William Gibson who said:
The future is here, it’s just not widely distributed yet.
Gibson’s words trigger curiosity, they awaken change and inspire the innovator in us. There is a truth in his paradox, just look at our technological advancements in the last 25 years.
Today I am launching my new website, Alexve.com – Innovation Conversations and with it, I like to start the conversation with anyone who can relate to Gibson’s words.
The future of our community we call ‘earth’ is accelerated by our nature to innovate. So why not ride this powerful current of change together?
I’ll be sharing my passion for innovation, technology and personal development here and invite anyone to join me. Alexve.com is about helping each other doing things smarter, sharing creative ideas, cool technology, books and anything that inspires and awakens the innovator in all of us.
Who inspired you to innovate?
